Memories from the Class of 1968

The Class of '68

There were 321 graduates in the class of '68.



Becky Hill and Gary Bean were chosen as Mr. and Miss CHS.




Our drum major was Chuck Manis and the band was under the direction of Odell Willis.



We had a foreign exchange student from Norway, Kari Lindseth, who lived with Roslyn Ramke.



Traffic was directed by Colonel Eubank and who could forget the Arriba Marimba Band?


The drama department under the direction of Mr. Douglas performed "A Man Called Peter" where Jane Weaver played the role of Hulda.

Charlie Sanders led the girls ensemble and mixed chorus of which many of us were members.


Cheryl Mize was a majorette for the band.
The top ten seniors were Ray Carmichael, Rodney Worrell, Philip Venditti, Nancy Hill, Vicki Smith, Melinda Dempster, Pat chadwell, Alan Fisher, Carolyn Tipton and Debbie Kaman.



Ben McCampbell, Mary Robertson, Jane Weaver and George Fillmore were delegates to girls' and boys' state.



National Merit Scholarship semi-finalists were Donna Freshour, Sam Kincaid, Melinda Dempster, and Dennis Butler.
Stephanie Weems was selected Miss Teenage Knoxville for 1968.



Our football team had a 8-3 record and went to the Honaker Bowl defeating Maryville 7-6. Head Coach was Frank Boring assisted by O.C. Lloyd, David Emory, Tommy Schumpert, and Harold Taylor. Team captains were Jim Boggs and Mike Winget.






Becky Hill served of captain of the cheerleading squad which included Cheryl Wake, Donna Bassette, and Joyce Buckner.





The CHS basketball team had 15-14 season under the leadership of Coach Leo Cooper and Coach Conrad Majors.


The varsity team included Dennis Greene, Marty Tallent, Bill McGee, Bobby Poynter, Roger Phillips, and Joe Mize. Co-captains were Joe Mize and Steve Wyrick.






Other sports included hockey, baseball, and track.



Clubs at CHS included J.C.L (Latin Club), French Club, Spanish Club, Y-Teens, Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, the Centralite Staff, math club, science club, future physicians and nurses, FHA, Key Club, Beta Club, Student Council, Art Club, Teens for Christ, Curtain Club, Debate Team, Octagon Club, Political Studies Group, High Y, Modern Dance, Varsity Club, FCA, FTA, and DECA.









Everyone could find something there were interested in being a part of at CHS!
